Q: What is Ghostwriter Certification Training’s actual certification? (degree, diploma, trade?)
- Who is it issued by?
- What accreditation does the issuing institution have?
- What academic or professional organizations have been involved in the curriculum development? Who in the field accepts or recognizes this certification?
A: First, some background.
Ghostwriter Certification Training is the only program of its kind in the world so far. It’s not very old. I created it to replace myself because my death was imminent. When I didn’t die, the course took a serious turn.
At this point, we have some interest from a few university extension-education organizations (a couple of CalState universities, a private online program, etc.) and a number of academics helping us work toward achieving accreditation, but no, we have not gotten there yet. When we do, it will be accredited via traditional academia.
Ergo, Wambtac Communications, which has been a legal entity since 1995, issues trade Certificates of Completion to those who make it through the intense 15-week course. Obviously, the certification is still too new to enjoy wide-spread recognition, but my grads have told me it has made the difference in landing gigs, and several literary agents have told me they appreciate the SOPs associated with the training:
“It’s about time someone imposed a standard of quality to this field. I’m tired of my clients paying $50,000 to someone who delivers an unsaleable pile of junk.”
Kinda hard to forget that kind of quote.
Most GCT students have bachelor degrees; about 50% have post-grad degrees; several have PhDs. End-of-term evaluations reveal this to be one of the toughest but most thorough programs students ever taken.
The course requires a tremendous amount of work to learn and apply its specific skills and theory–concepts that cannot be found anywhere else but that can make a huge difference in a freelancer’s career and self-confidence. Derek Lewis, who just graduated, also just landed his first $30,000+ contract. You can read his blog about GCT at http://atlassmirked.com/blog/what-is-a-ghostwriter-certification-course.html.
